Located just a few meters from the sea, it was once p<strong>rotected by a massive sand and clay dune<\/strong>, which served to conceal it from the view of enemy ships and shield it from potential cannon fire.<\/p>\n<p>The military structure, made of reinforced concrete, was equipped with <strong>six 280 L\/9 howitzers<\/strong>, which were later replaced by <strong>four 76\/40 anti-aircraft guns<\/strong>, better suited for penetrating the armored decks of modern Austro-Hungarian warships.<\/p>\n<p>During the <strong>Great War<\/strong>, Batteria Pisani was manned by the First Fortress Artillery Regiment of the 5th Company of the Permanent Army. In the course of the <strong>Second World War<\/strong>, it housed an anti-aircraft artillery position, and after being decommissioned, it was occupied by civilians until the last decades of the 20th century.<\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b5fdb4c elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"b5fdb4c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">THE GREAT WAR MUSEUM<\/h4>\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-112949e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"112949e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>After a series of <strong>restoration works<\/strong> that began in 2004, Batteria Pisani opened its doors to the public as the <strong>Great War Museum<\/strong> in July 2017.
